Living Free...and Fashionable

Today was a great day as I attended a retreat put on by a ministry called Living Free which is headed up by a woman from my church, Stephanie Robbins. She has recently expanded this ministry, and I think she might be taking it on the road so I'll give you a heads up. If you hear about this ministry or Steph, and have a chance to book/hear her, do it! She's great!

Today we drove 30 mins outside of town to a house right on the ocean with breathtaking views. Immediately my spirit was calmed as I looked over the deck to the serene water, trees and rocks. The day included the following: two times of worship led by Emma, a wonderful, spirit led and filled woman, two sessions with speaking from Stef, and a fashion show which I got to organize. Everything went really well. We were drawn into the Lord's presence during the times of worship, then Stephanie challanged us both times she spoke with truth from the word.

Along with times of spiritual growth, we also had great times of fellowship and a fun time with the fashion show. This was my baby, and it was SO much fun to do. Steph had been in contact with Reitmans in the Bedford Place Mall, and we were able to use clothes from there for the fashion show. I chose three models, then I went in and scouted out the clothes I thought would work for them, and we all came in later so they could try on their outfits. We made a few changes, but in the end, they all looked fabulous. It felt weird walking out of the store with an armful of clothes I didn't buy, but also felt so great at the same time because I was able to have fun with the clothes without having to spend money on them :)

I don't know if anyone who reads this blog and lives in Canada watches the show Cityline, but it's a talk show based out of Toronto, and every Friday is Fashion Fridays where one of two stylists they work with comes on and shows looks from different stores. I felt just like one of those stylists. I made cue cards for myself, I hade the models come out one by one, and then they stood there and modeled the outfit while I explained what they were wearing and why it worked. The weekend was called Dress for Success, (hence the reason we had a fashion show), so I showed work/office appropriate outfits, but then I also told them how they could take different pieces of the outfit and make it work for evening and weekend wear as well. I also tried to give a few tips, and tell them about some of the trends of the season. I had a blast, and the women really seemed to enjoy it too.

All in all, I'd say the retreat was a huge success. I have more I'd love to say about it but that will have to come later because I've said too much already. That's all for now.
